BOTOX® Injections - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Cosmetic Treatment Options

BOTOX® injections are more routine now than they ever have been. There are still a number of questions, however, that many people have about them. This article will answer the most frequently asked questions about BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

Q: What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injection that can be put into the skin. The serum is made up of trace amounts of a compound that is found in botulism. While having a large amount of this serum in your system can render your entire body paralyzed, having a small amount only paralyzes the muscle that it is injected into.

Q: Where are BOTOX® injections given?

Most people choose to have BOTOX® Cosmetic injected into an area of their face. Popular areas include the center and sides of the forehead as well as some areas of the cheeks. These injections can help smooth out areas of the face that can make a person look considerably younger.

Q: Is it expensive?

Getting BOTOX® injections is usually not very expensive, and can often be much more affordable than having to pay for facial surgery. The price depends on what area of the country you live in, as different locations tend to be more expensive than others.

Q: Is BOTOX® permanent?

Unfortunately, no, a BOTOX® injection does not permanently alter your face. The results that you receive will last anywhere from three to six months, depending on your skin and your muscle tone.

Q: Are there any risks?

Some people do complain of having a headache or a bit of nausea following their injections, but most individuals come out of the injections perfectly well and healthy, and with the younger looking face that they have been wanting. Cosmetic surgeons, however, do urge anyone who has a history of botulism not to have BOTOX® injections for fear of a strong negative reaction.

Q: Does every cosmetic surgeon give BOTOX® injections?

While most do, not every cosmetic surgeon does. It is always a good idea to call around before you choose your cosmetic surgeon. Beware of any physician who offers to inject you with BOTOX who is not a board certified cosmetic surgeon. Because BOTOX® is so affordable and easily purchased, many physicians try to offer the injections "on the side" but are not qualified or trained to use the substance properly. Always ensure your cosmetic surgeon is experienced and authorized to perform any procedures you want to undertake.
